Training
As part of your preparation for any major trip it is advisable to learn some vehicle maintenance as well as how to drive off road, and there is no better way to learn than with your own vehicle.
Vehicle Maintenance
We can run vehicle maintenance courses in two ways, either we can talk you through the main areas, showing you how to check your oil levels, change filters, check wheel bearings, etc or our preferred approach is for you to come and work with us on your car for a day or two.
We structure the work on the car so that the main service related work is carried out whilst you are working with us, so you get to see how the various bits work/go together.
We find this approach invaluable, providing the owner with a good understanding of how the truck is put together and then the confidence to work on the truck themselves should they need to.
We also find that with a reasonable understanding of how the truck works the owners are more sensitive to how their truck is running and are therefore able to identify potential problems early.
We don’t specifically charge for this training. It does tend to take longer to do the jobs whilst explaining what we are doing, but more often than not the whole job takes the same amount of time with an extra pair (or two) of hands.
It’s very difficult to pick up the key areas in just a day so we are able to provide overnight accommodation either with us, in your tent/caravan in the garden or we can point you in the direction of a very good local B&B.
Off Road Driver Training
As the leaving date for your trip approaches it is advisable to load up your truck and take it for a test drive whilst fully loaded so that you can get a feel for how it handles and it’s capabilities over rough terrain.
In addition to joining some of the ELCO play days/weekends, we can arrange for driving tuition on an excellent technical off road course where you can push yourself and your vehicle to the limits, learning about the correct gears to use for steep ascents and descents, when and how to use your diff locks, how to use your winch, etc.
The training courses are structured around each individual’s requirements and with on site camping facilities can be run over more than one day.
